New research – use of social care by disabled LGBTQI+ people

Over the past year, Regard has been working with the University of Bristol, the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) and Stonewall on a research project into the management of social care by LGBTQI+ disabled people.

At the launch event tomorrow on Wednesday 25 October at Coin Street Conference Centre, 108 Stamford Street, South Bank, London SE1 9NH we will showcase the research findings and outputs.

This will be the most significant piece of research about LGBTQI+ disabled people’s use of social care ever to be published. It will finally provide evidence about the barriers we face in applying for and managing social care support, and about the positive impact on our lives that good quality self-directed support can make.

The research is particularly significant because the findings will be disseminated through the partners’ networks. These will reach researchers and policy makers and social care workers as well as the disabled and LGBTQI+ communities. There will also be short films, web and printed briefings for disabled people and the PAs who provide their support, aimed at increasing confidence and improving practice.
